Cuyahoga County experienced two tornadoes with wind speeds of up to 110 miles per hour, one of which spanned 17 miles long and 350 yards wide, crossing densely populated areas from Brook Park to Bedford. Optical Fiber Cable Expo 2024 has learned that this was the most influential storm in the region since July 1993, when a series of powerful thunderstorms resulted in power outages for approximately 300,000 of the company's customers.
Over 3,050 frontline workers from FirstEnergy, supported by more than 1,000 loss assessors, disaster responders, forestry, and other support staff from within and outside the company, worked tirelessly in 16-hour shifts, day and night, to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible.
Optical Fiber Cable Expo 2024 has learned that, after the disaster, approximately several hundred personnel rapidly arrived and began assisting with the on-site work.
The company has established temporary sites in the Greater Cleveland area to accommodate the assistance of external workers, providing a small living and storage area during this special period, thereby improving the efficiency of the entire operation.
In Northeast Ohio, hundreds to thousands of documented damage locations have been recorded. As the site workers continue their assessments, real-time additions of equipment issues are being addressed, with relevant personnel making emergency repairs based on the updated information.
