Cable Trade Fair 2024 Newsflash: Power Restoration Efforts in North Carolina Post-Storm
As Tropical Storm Debbie continues to impact North Carolina, Cable Trade Fair 2024 has learned that 7,500 line workers, vegetation workers, and other staff from Duke Energy are busy restoring power or are on emergency standby, waiting for the right opportunity to make urgent repairs.
Previously, nearly 300,000 Duke Energy customers in North Carolina experienced power outages. The workers have been actively communicating with customers and relevant authorities and have already restored power to about 190,000 users.
Cable Trade Fair 2024 understands that before restoring power, workers must first assess the extent of the damage to determine the timeliness of repairs, establish personnel allocations, and prepare emergency repair materials.
For the safety of the staff, aerial operations must be halted when wind speeds exceed 30 miles per hour. They wait until after the storm when it is safe to continue with damage assessment and repairs.
Some considerations during the power restoration process include:
- Stay away from fallen or sagging power lines. Exercise caution around any energized lines, and anything that may be touching them, such as trees or branches.
- If a power line falls on your vehicle, stay inside.
- If you must exit the vehicle due to fire or other life-threatening situations, try to jump clear of the car and land with both feet together. Make sure your body does not touch any part of the vehicle while your feet touch the ground.
- Fallen cables may be hidden in puddles and are difficult to see in the rain, so if you encounter large areas of standing water, do not take chances; please detour instead.
