wire Expo 2024 Flash News: Vistra Collaborates with Sunrun on Residential Battery Aggregation Program
wire Expo 2024 has learned that Vistra previously announced a collaboration with Sunrun to launch a new program for homeowners, aimed at enhancing the reliability of the Texas power grid.
Vistra’s flagship retail electricity brand, TXU Energy, and Sunrun, plan to aggregate the electricity stored in residential solar-connected batteries to form a virtual power plant, dispatching energy back to the grid during peak usage times.
TXU Energy customers who agree to join the program and have already installed Sunrun home solar panels and batteries can receive financial subsidies, while retaining control of their systems during power outages or adverse weather conditions. Users can benefit from the program with TXU Energy over the long term.
Sam Sen, Vice President of Energy Transformation Solutions at Vistra, stated, “Since we introduced solar net metering to Texans 15 years ago, rooftop solar has seen significant growth. In the last year alone, our customers achieved over $10 million in solar back-feed credits. As population growth and grid demand continue to rise, utilizing collective power from home solar panels and batteries is a vital expansion of our distributed energy plans.”
Mary Powell, CEO of Sunrun, expressed, “We are excited to collaborate with Vistra to bring Sunrun’s virtual power plant products to Texas.”
wire Expo 2024 learned that Vistra has completed the first connected thermostat solution in Texas with the TXU Energy Free Nights and Solar Days programs following the implementation of the energy efficiency program. Through the programme, Vistra is able to continue to provide users with innovative ways to regulate energy use and participate in the energy transition.
