Optical Fiber Cable Show 2024 Information on Mainstream Renewable Energy and Offshore Wind Energy Projects' Environmental Impact Assessment

Optical Fiber Cable Show 2024 has learned that Mainstream Renewable Power, a pure-play global wind and solar company controlled by Aker Horizons ASA, announced that its joint venture, KF Wind, owns a 1,125 MW floating offshore wind project being developed near the coast of Ulsan, jointly owned by Mainstream (33.3%) and Ocean Winds (66.7%).

The project is divided into two phases, and after over 12 months of on-site monitoring activities and several rounds of consultations with the local community, key local stakeholders, and the fishing community, it has received Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval from the Ministry of Environment.

Optical Fiber Cable Show 2024 understands that the approval of the EIA focuses on the application of the highest environmental standards and incorporates the experience of KF Wind's sponsors, Ocean Winds and Mainstream Renewable Power.

The first phase of the EIA includes the 375 MW East Blue Power, and the second phase comprises the 750 MW KF Wind. The scope includes 75 turbines and floating foundations, two bottom-fixed offshore substations, three 80-kilometer submarine export cables, one onshore substation, and 4.5 kilometers of onshore high-voltage lines, ending at the interconnection point to KEPCO's Shin-Yongheung onshore substation.

The approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment is a significant milestone in the progress of the two-phase floating offshore wind project, which is continuously moving forward.
