Logistics system provider ROTECH Industries has completed the installation of an automatic storage and retrieval system at the Hong Kong Electric Company Limited's (HK Electric) substation in Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong Island. Optical Fiber Cable Show 2024 learned that, the new system utilizes a lift-type transfer vehicle (ETV) to efficiently handle heavy cable reels and transformers.

 

This innovative solution maximizes warehouse space utilization, enhances safety and material handling efficiency, and simplifies inventory management processes.

 

Due to the inability to expand the 800 m² storage area, and since each cable reel weighing an average of 5.3 tons can be easily damaged if improperly stored, continuous optimization of the storage solution is necessary to meet warehouse demands. The classification of inventory retrieval records in the warehouse is also a significant challenge.

 

The new fully automated four-level ETV system allows clients to safely and damage-free increase storage space. The customized system comprises intelligent control software and hardware such as conveyors, managing up to 293 storage spaces simultaneously in the warehouse.

 

The introduction of automated processes reduces physical labor during transportation and handling, optimizes employee workflow, and enables HK Electric to manage inventory in real-time.
