Optical Fiber Cable Exhibition 2024 Brief - Incentives for Electric Vehicle Charging in New Jersey

FirstEnergy Corp.'s subsidiary, Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), has been vigorously promoting customer incentive programs since 2023 and recently launched a residential electric vehicle (EV) charging incentive. Optical Fiber Cable Exhibition 2024 learned that the specific measure of this event is to waive the installation fee for users to install EV chargers.

JCP&L's "EV Driven" is a four-year program that was approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) in 2022. The goal of the program is to reduce automobile emissions to achieve environmentally friendly objectives.

Optical Fiber Cable Exhibition 2024 has learned that the plan will last for a total of 14 months. Doug Mokoid, the president of FirstEnergy in New Jersey, stated, "New Jersey is among the top five states in the nation in terms of electric vehicle sales, and we are delighted to enable JCP&L customers to easily charge their electric vehicles. The success of the first round of incentives has already shown that such activities are effective."

JCP&L customers can receive up to $7,000 in rewards for installing electric vehicle chargers.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Energy, the transportation sector is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the state, accounting for 46% of the state's net emissions. Electric vehicles are a clean and efficient alternative to gasoline-powered cars and, depending on battery capacity, can have a driving range from about 80 to 280 miles. The average cost per mile of gasoline is as low as one-third.

New Jersey has also long advocated for increasing the use of electric vehicles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
