Keep Growing! China's New Energy Vehicle Market Will Enter the Era of Tens of Millions of Vehicles
In 2022, China's new energy vehicle market continued to grow explosively. According to the latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in 2022 reached 7.058 million units and 6.887 million units, with a year-on-year increase of 96.9% and 93.4% respectively, maintaining the world's first place for eight consecutive years.
"In 2023, the new energy vehicle industry will face multiple changes such as environment, technological reshaping, product upgrading, brand positioning, and decarbonization challenges. The competition between the domestic market and the overseas market will become increasingly fierce. "If we respond appropriately, fully grasp the favorable factors, and promote the transformation of automotive and parts companies, supply chains and value chains, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in 2023 are expected to increase by 30%-40% year-on-year, with a penetration rate of nearly 40%, and the overall is expected to approach 10 million units." Recently, Zhang Yongwei, vice chairman and secretary general of the China Electric Vehicle 100 Association, made the above judgment on China's new energy vehicle market in 2023.
Global Sales Account for over 60%
Last year, China sold 6.887 million new energy vehicles throughout the year, and its market share increased to 25.6%, which was 12.1 percentage points higher than the previous year, and global sales accounted for more than 60%. Among them, the sales of pure electric vehicles reached 5.365 million units, an increase of 81.6% year-on-year. The sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 1.518 million units, an increase of 1.5 times year-on-year. It is worth mentioning that in 2022, the domestic market sales of self-owned brand new energy passenger vehicles accounted for 79.9%, an increase of 5.4 percentage points year-on-year. The export of new energy vehicles reached 679,000 units, an increase of 1.2 times year-on-year. China occupies 3 seats among the top 10 enterprise groups in global new energy vehicle sales, and 6 seats among the top 10 enterprises in the installed capacity of power batteries.
In 2022, a total of 5.21 million charging piles and 1,973 replacement power stations were built nationwide, of which 2.593 million new charging piles and 675 replacement power stations were added in 2022. The construction speed of charging and swapping infrastructure has significantly accelerated. A total of more than 10,000 power battery recycling service outlets have been established, basically achieving nearby recycling.
Exports Will Become an Important Growth Point in the Market
At present, China has become the second largest automobile exporter after Japan. European countries such as Belgium, Slovenia and the United Kingdom are important export markets, reflecting the global competitiveness of China's new energy vehicles and industrial chain.
It is expected that exports will become another important growth force in the new energy vehicle market in 2023, with export volume expected to approach 800,000 units.
The Infrastructure Application System Is Gradually Supplementing
In 2023, diversified energy replenishment methods such as slow charging, high-power charging, battery swapping, and hydrogen refueling stations will be applied in different scenarios to meet the diverse energy replenishment needs of users. High-power, high-voltage fast charging and supercharging will not only become a highlight in China, but also a technological route promoted by the industry in Europe and the United States.
At present, China's new energy vehicle market has entered a period of comprehensive market-oriented expansion, and it is expected to maintain a rapid growth trend this year.
