LS CABLE & SYSTEM COMPLETES SUBMARINE POWER PLANT IN DONGHAE
LS Cable and System announced that it has completed its second submarine cable plant in Donghae, Gangwon Province, boosting its submarine cable production capacity 2.5 times.
The new submarine cable plant was built on a site of 104,000 square meters with the floor space totaling 8,800 square meters. The company invested about 50 billion won. Construction started in March in 2019.
The submarine cable business is growing in size in recent years due to the expansion of offshore wind farms and large-scale tourism island development around the world.
In general, it is important to continuously manufacture submarine power cables of about 30 cm in diameter to tens of kilometers at a time. The company explained that for this, large manufacturing facilities are essential, and that facilities themselves are an important factor in determining cable manufacturers’ competitiveness.
The second plant consists of facilities for production, storage and transportation of ultra-high voltage cables on a large scale. Most of the facilities were developed in house. In particular, it also has a manufacturing facility as tall as 50 meters. Only five such tall facilities exist in the world. The company also introduced a 5,000-ton turntable which can hold 1,000 five-ton truckloads of cables in one place.
