New Digital Electricity™ Cable from Belden sends high power levels over long distances
Available in copper and copper/fiber hybrid versions, this cable is designed to take advantage of VoltServer’s Digital Electricity technology.
St. Louis, Missouri – Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, is excited to announce its new Digital Electricity Cables, designed in conjunction with VoltServer, the creator of Digital Electricity. Cables are available in copper and hybrid copper/fiber constructions to transmit power and data over long distances in a single cable run.
Tailored specifically to the demands of Digital Electricity, this new cable line delivers power to applications that Power over Ethernet (PoE) and remote DC power can’t support due to distance limitations. Belden’s Digital Electricity Cables deliver up to 20 times more power or distance than PoE: up to 2,000W across a reach of up to 2 km in indoor and outdoor applications.
Twisted pairs in the copper cable maintain flexibility and performance during installation, improve electrical performance, speed up installation and reduce confusion by offering easy identification of cable pairs. Made of tinned copper, the cable features anti-corrosion properties for improved longevity.
The copper/fiber hybrid version helps installers reduce cable inventory (because a hybrid construction requires only one cable to stock and manage) and reduces labor costs with only a single cable to pull.
Thanks to a default reel length of 2,000 ft vs. a conventional length of 1,000 ft, new Digital Electricity Cables also reduce waste by providing enough material to support runs that exceed 500 ft – with cable leftover for additional cable runs.
“With the explosion of IoT has also come the need for remote power. Many wireless devices aren’t located near a local power source,” says Michael Bodzay, Belden’s product manager, security and electronic cable. “These cables are the only application-specific solution designed to support the way Digital Electricity works: combining energy and data into packets and transferring hundreds of packets each second from a transmitter to a receiver. This process constantly monitors conditions and stops power distribution immediately if an issue is detected.”
Digital Electricity Cables support IoT and convergence in venues such as airport terminals, convention centers, hospitals, high-rise hotels, stadiums and office towers. Cables are available as shielded or unshielded, in pairs of two, four or eight and in diameters of 14, 16 or 18 AWG.
Only Belden’s innovative enterprise connectivity solutions take a universal approach to customers’ enterprises, resolving signal transmission needs with IP- and legacy-based solutions that enable a smooth migration to convergence. Belden’s extensive portfolio spans LAN, data centers, building automation and security and access control to keep information running smoothly. Outstanding global service and support capabilities and application-specific warranty programs complete Belden’s unique offering.
